Mustangs....Stampede into the FUTURE with a history making record of 9-2!!!
We are so proud of our Mustang Football Team and Coaches!
|
| Ms. KK Lemoine as "Mustang Sally"
...each Friday Ms. KK puts on the Mustang head and stands in the Senior Academy hallway outside her room. The Mustang Football players pass and rub the top of the head as a good luck charm. They have been doing this since the beginning of the year....and it looks like it is certainly doing the trick. Keep up the tradition, Ms KK, and good luck to the Mustangs as they push hard to finish a 10-0 season. WE BELIEVE!!

Avoyelles VS McMainn November 4, 2011 Avoyelles hosted Elanore McMainn High School, whose mascot is also the Mustangs, in a first round playoff game, and even though the Avoyelles Mustangs fought hard and were able to sucessfully move the ball, they came up short in the end. Johntrell White rushed for 160 yards and scored one touchdown, and Matthew McGhee ran for 226 yards and also crossed the goal line scoring three touchdowns. Kamron Savant got in on the action adding two more rushing touchdowns with 15 carries for 68 yards, along with Romo Turner, who also scored a touchdown. The Mustangs ended the game with 496 total yards. Our Mustangs were back in prime form but unfortunately, our defense was unable to stop McMainn. The final score was 66-50. Even though it is not the finish we wanted, we have much to be thankful for. The football players promised us at the very first pep rally this year that they would deliver, and boy, did they ever. Also, the Mustangs only had one player who sustained a serious injury, but Eric Doyle is a tough young man and will be returning to school today. His jaw will remain wired for another four weeks and he is looking forward to eating a big Christmas dinner. The Journalism and Speech classes certainly wish him the best. And finally, Coach Andy Boone, his staff, and all of the football players have asked me to say thank you fans. Thank you for your support both at the games and in the community, and thanks for bleeding BLUE AND GOLD!!!

Avoyelles VS Marksville The Mustangs had high hopes continuing their dream season by defeating cross parish rival Marksville tonight. For the first time since regular season began, I am sorry to say that I must use the L word. But I am not sorry to say I am a Mustang. In fact, I am just as proud to be a Mustang today as I was any other day. After all, having and 9-1 season is pretty awesome, and no matter how you look at it 9-1 is better than 7-3!! After 9 consecutive victories, the Mustangs were unable to execute the win. All season long the Mustangs have intimidated their opponents by averaging 52 points per game, scoring 60 points in three different games, and until Friday night had not scored less than 40 points in any game. So even though we were on the wrong side of the 63-6 final score, it has been an AMAZING season. But hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen, because the fat lady isn't singing yet. Avoyelles hosted Elanore McMain High School from the New Orleans area in a first round play game. Kick off was at 7 pm. Thanks for supporting the Mustangs this school year!!! Mustangs did a great job!! :)

October 28, 2011 Avoyelles vs Buckeye No, it isn't a dream and you aren't in OZ. You are right here in Avoyelles Parish and the Mustangs really are 9-0 for the season. Coach Andy Boone and company continue to amaze their fans and daze the opponents.
While it was a dream season for Avoyelles, Buckeye was having their worst nightmare tonight. In a contest that was never even close, the Mustangs played some tough smash-mouth football both offensively and defensively. The Triple Threat Guys under the direction of quarterback Romaro Turner continues to rack up yard after yard. It is hard to spot light just one player from tonight's game as the entire game executed perfectly. The Panthers were looking a little pale when the final horn sounded, and they left Mustang Stadium losing to Avoyelles 60-19. Offensively for the season, Matthew McGhee has rushed for 1400 yards, scoring 19 touchdowns; Johntrell White added another 1336 yards and 17 touchdowns, making them some of the best running backs in the state. The defense also has some bragging rights of their own, starting with the Boone Crusher himself: Wesley Boone, with 62 tackles. Kamron Savant got in his share with 46 tackles, and Eric Doyle added another 32, and Ernest Charrier with 22.
Good luck Mustangs on our final game against Marksville this Friday night!!! Don't miss it!!!!! :)

October 21, 2011 Avoyelles VS Vadalia Of course the big news on campus is the football team with their record of 8 wins and NO losses. That's right, your Mustangs are still undeafeated!!! Tonight, the Mustangs traveled to Vidalia and faced off with the Vikings. Avoyelles got off to a slow start, scoring only 8 points in the first quarter, but fired up on all 8 cyclinders in the second quarter and racked up 48 points. The offense was looking good and the defense was looking really good. Coach Boone, showing true sportmanship and not wanting to run up the score, played his second string most of the second half and also allowed a few of the starters to play different positions in order to get a different look at the field, and perhaps some experience in other roles in the event of an injury. When the final horn blew, the score was Mustangs-56, Vidalia-20. This week is the last home game of the season and is of course Senior Night. The Mustangs will honor not only the football seniors, but senior band members, color guard, danceline, and cheerleaders. Pre-game ceremonies will begin a 6 pm and kick off against district rival Buckeye Panthers will be at 7 pm. Make sure you come out for this last, but important, home game!!! Let's make it to 9-0 Mustangs!!!!!!!!

October 14, 2011 Avoyelles VS Jena Well fans, the Mustangs are running WILD!!! It was week 7 and Avoyelles High is sporting a perfect 7&0 season! Our coaches and players continue to stick to their game plan and continue to win. Quarterback Romero Turner guides the offense over and over again to the promise land, and the 3-headed monster made of McGhee, White, and Boone is relentless and refuses to back down. This week's total rushing yards was 419, with Matthew McGhee rushing for 170 yards and three touchdowns, Johntrell White gaining 155 yards and a touchdown, and Wesley Boone running for 30 yards and scoring once. Friday night, the Mustang defense took control of the Giants, chopping them down and holding Jena's offense to just 22 points. The Boone-Crusher had an outstanding defensive game, making 10 tackles, while Eric Doyle got in on the action with 8 tackles. When the final whistle blew, it was your Mustangs of Avoyelles High 44-22 over the Jena Giants. This Friday finds the Mustangs traveling to Vidallia for another important district match up against the Vikings. Make sure you make plans to travel with the team and support the horses as they try to extend their winning streak and leave their mark in AHS history. I've seen a few businesses struttin' the blue and gold, but we need everyone to "color up" and show their support for the Mustangs.....this team, these coaches and, most importantly, these players deserve our support!!!

October 7, 2011 Avoyelles VS Cauldwell
Well, Mustang fans, it was week 6 of the regular season and those cardiac horses were running loose at Mustang Stadium. The offense had another big night gaining a total of 430 yards. Those triple threat guys were at it again with Matthew McGhee racking up 167 yards and scored one TD. Wesley Boone, AKA the Boone Crusher, added another 88 yards and took the pigskin in for 3 TDs, and Johntrell White gained 97 yards, scoring twice. Kamron Savant decided he would get in on the action and caught a pass, taking it to the end zone, scoring his second TD for the season! The defense for both teams was not very effective and for awhile, it looked as though the winner of game would be whichever team had the ball last. However, the Mustang defense woke up in the fourth quarter and sucessfully shut down the Spartans. Boone and White both intercepted 2 point conversion passes in the end zone, allowing Avoyelles to go on to win 58-48, making the Mustangs 6-0 for the season!!! You know fans, this isn't the first time AHS has had a winning football season, but it sure has been a long, long time. Wesley, the Boone Crusher, Boone promised the students at the very first pep rally back in August a winning season, and Coach Boone promised the students and company has delivered on that promise. The football players tell me over and over again how much it means to them that the fan support is there, so now I am asking you to not only come to this week's upcoming game against Jena but to get fired up. We need all the business and individuals in the AHS block to go the whole hog and decorate with blue and gold. Let's get behind these players and show them how much we appreciate the job well done. You know the Seniors on this team went through 3 very long seasons of losing, and of being the punching bag in the district. Now they are punching back!!! So let's show our support and get fired up behind the Mustangs!!! =)

AVOYELLES HIGH VS TIOGA SEPTEMBER 30, 2011
Awesome, amazing, tremendous, fantastic....the list of adjectives you could use to describe this football season as it continues to grow. Once again our Mustangs took to the gridion and once again the horses came back with a victory!! Last Friday night, Avoyelles High traveled to Tioga and showed the Indians that not only can they win and win big, but they can do it on the road. The triple threat Mustangs continue to stampede over their opponents. This week it was Matthew McGhee's night to shine as he racked up 256 yards averaging 8.5 yards per carry. Johntrelle White added another 87 yards while Wesley Boone and Pop Batiste each ran for 33 and 30 yards respectively. Quarterback Romo Turner was 3 for 5 in passing completions and continues to lead the offense. The Mustangs scored 5 touchdowns and converted all five 2 point conversions. The defense still refuses to let the offense take all the glory and held Tioga to just 14 points and only 5 first downs. Without the efforts both the defensive and offensive lines, the Mustangs would not be as sucessful. The guys hold back their opponents and open holes for the triple threat guys to break through. And it should be noted that most of these lineman play both offense and defense. When it was all over the final score was your Mustangs 40; Tioga 14. This week the Mustangs will open district play and host Caldwell. It is more important than ever that the fan supports there. Kick off is at 7 pm so make your plans to attend.

Great job to our fighting Mustangs this past Friday on their 60-58 win over the Bunkie Panthers in overtime! Led by Johntrelle White with 287 yards and four touchdowns, and Romero Turner, Matthew McGhee, and Wesley Boone's touchdowns, the Mustangs were able to seal the win and move to a 4-0 record on the season. On the road this Friday, the Mustangs will be facing Tioga High School. Kickoff is at 7 pm. It would be nice to see lots of fans support the team!!!

September 23, 2011: Homecoming Game
My oh my, Mustang fans. If you missed the homecoming game Friday night against cross-parish rival Bunkie, you missed the best yet! I fully believe after watching this one, the Mustangs need to change their name to the Cardiac Horses. What started as another dominate performance by our Mustangs turned into a real cat fight. Johntrelle White possibly had his biggest night ever gaining a total of 287 yards and scoring 4 touchdowns. Dravon "pop" Batiste and Kamron Savant both turned in a big, big night defensively, as did Eric Doyle, who racked up another quarterback sack. Halftime found the horses up 30 to 16, but Bunkie refused to go away and gave the Mustangs their toughest competition to date. With just 10 seconds left on the clock, the Panthers scored a touchdown but did not convert a PAT, tying the ball game at 52, forcing the game into overtime. Avoyelles would go to score a touch and a 2 point conversion making the score 60 to 52. Once again, Bunkie would drive the ball into the end zone, but were not able to make the 2 point conversion. The final score was 60 to 58, with the Mustangs still undefeated with a perfect 4 and 0 record. This week our Mustangs travel to Tioga where they will continue to try and keep their stampede unblemished. I've had several players tell me how much it means to them to have fan support, so make plans now for the trip north. Kick-off is at 7 pm at the Indian Reservation.

September 16, 2011 Avoyelles VS Jonesboro Hodge It was week three of regular season play for the Mustangs and once again the horses showed they really know how to play. It's another tally mark in the win column and another great performance by both the offense and defense. Matthew McGhee had a really big night offensively with a 137 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Wesley Boone added to the offense with 121 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. Johntrelle White ran for 103 yards and also scored a touchdown. The offense racked a total of 400 yards! The defense also continues to control their opponents, holding the Tigers to 19 points. Eric Doyle made a notable defensive play by recovering a fumble. Final score: Mustangs-40, Jonesboro-19, making the Mustangs 3 and 0 for the season. This week is homecoming and AHS will face cross-parish rival Bunkie High. Make your plans to go to the game and support the Mustangs as they try to continue their winning streak with a victory over the Panthers.

September 9, 2012 - Avoyelles vs. Oakdale
Another win for the AHS Mustangs!!!
Okay Mustang fans, if you are bored on Friday nights don't blame the football team!! The Mustangs traveled to Oakdale last Friday and showed the warrior in their own style of a scalping. The team continues to execute well on both sides of the line with our offense scoring 6, that's right, 6 touchdowns and converting all six 2 point conversions. Quaterback Romero "Romo" Turner threw 2 touchdown passes, one to Kamron Savant and the other to Wesley Boone. Boone also rushed for 2 additional touchdowns while Matthew McGhee and Dravon "POP" Batiste each ran the pigskin in for 6 points. The defense had no intentions of letting the offense take all the glory and exhibited great defensive play. Some noteable tackles were made by Kamron Savant, Wesley Boone, and Dontevious Turner. Johntrell White grabbed an interception while Cade Mayeaux sacked the Oakdale quarterback for a loss. Final score had our Mustangs on top with 40-20, making AHS 2 and O in regular season play. Make your plans to travel with the Mustangs this week to Jonesboro Hodge for a 7 pm kickoff. Mayor Kenneth Farbe tells me he will be leading the police escort supporting the Mustangs to what promises to be another exciting game.

September 2, 2011 - Mustangs vs. Pointe Coupee Central
Wow!!! Friday night lights was amazing this past Friday at Mustang Stadium. Our Mustangs were truly awesome, not to mention extremely dominate. The Mustangs scored early in the first quarter on Johntrell White's rushing touch-down, never looking back. The Mustangs caged the Cougars of Pointe Coupee Central with a dominate performance the entire game. The final score was Avoyelles 60 to Pointe Coupee 22!! If you missed this one, shame, shame, shame on YOU!! It was a real barn burner and full of excitement. This week the Mustangs travel to Oakdale for a 7:00 PM kick-off. Please make plans to travel with the team and support our Mustangs and their coaches!!!
